We’re flying to CLT today to see Dortmund v Liverpool tomorrow. Bank of America Stadium follows the NFL rules regarding what you can and can’t take into the stadium, and it says you can take in a “small still camera.” Does that mean I can take an SLR with a non-telephoto lens (0r at least one that looks non-telephoto) , or just a little point-and-shoot?

Yeah, that should be fine. They just don’t want people bringing in tripods and such.

I have been to several, and I don’t recall people bringing in cameras. But, I mostly go for the game and atmosphere. This is from an NFL stadium guide (you can look this up your local stadium’s website):
Bags
Guests are strongly encouraged to not bring any type of bags. Guests will be able to carry the following style and size bag, package, or container at stadium plaza areas, stadium gates, or when approaching queue lines of fans awaiting entry into the stadium:
Bags that are clear plastic, vinyl or PVC and do not exceed 12” x 6” x 12”
One-gallon resealable, clear plastic storage bags (Ziploc bag or similar).
Small clutch bags are not to exceed 4.5” x 6.5” (approximately the size of a hand), with or without a handle or strap, may be carried into Arrowhead Stadium along with one of the clear bag options.
An exception will be made for medically necessary items after proper inspection at either Tower Gate, Founder’s Plaza Gate, CommunityAmerica Gate or Spiral Gate D, which are designated for this purpose.
Prohibited items include, but are not limited to: purses larger than a clutch bag, coolers, briefcases, backpacks, fanny packs, clinch bags, luggage of any kind, computer bags and camera bags or any bag larger than the permissible size.
Cameras
Video cameras or professional cameras are prohibited . Small still cameras are permitted in Arrowhead Stadium, as long as they are carried or in a clear plastic, vinyl, or PVC bag measuring 12” x 6” x 12” or less. The bag and small still camera are subject to inspection. Small still cameras are considered any camera that is smaller than 6 in length and width. Tripods, monopods, and camera lens longer than 6" (detachable or non- detachable) are not permitted.

Yeah, I’ve read all of this on the BOA Stadium site. We have the clear bags. I just measured my camera and it is within 6" wide and long.

Tripods and long telephotos is what I’m thinking. I’ve got a super zoom that goes from 18-270, but it shrinks down to the length of a normal lens.

Enjoy Charlotte, it’s almost as good as Raleigh.

Good, then you should be fine. Enjoy! Sounds like it’ll be a fun time!

Yep. I’ve done the 2-3 day CLT business trip several times. It’s a very nice and compact downtown area, which they call “Uptown” because of reasons (Billy Joel?)
The Latta Arcade is a historic little pedestrian area near the stadium with decent bars and restaurants. Several blocks north on Tryon St is a pretty good family/kids museum if you have the fam with you. The NASCAR HOF/museum is also just a few blocks from there, as well (I haven’t had the time, but heard it’s great).
Romare Bearden park is almost right next to the stadium and is a nice outdoor space for walks/picnics.
Restaurants are better than average, thanks to the foodie culture in so much of NC. If you want mainstream fare and maybe catch a movie, the “Epicenter” is a pretty nice mixed use development uptown. Five Guys, a few mexican places, etc.
And you can always find something more upscale if you want. The main drag is full of the usual Ruth’s Chris, Flemings, etc.
The airport is cool, you’ll appreciate it. Busiest airport in the world in terms of aircraft movement. Fields upon fields of Dash 8s and CRJs because of the sheer volume of regional East Coast/Southeast flights.
It’s a surprisingly metropolitan city, given that the primary brain trusts of BofA and Wells Fargo are both there, among others. Half my coworkers there are Indian/Asian, and the restaurants and culture in town also reflect that quite a bit. It’s like a much more approachable version of Houston or Atlanta.

No problem, enjoy. I edited the comment a bit after you replied. I’ll wave at you from BHM as you pass over!
Use google maps near a window and you’ll get a GPS signal to help identify lakes, cities and landmarks. You should descend right over Atlanta, Stone Mountain is pretty cool from the air. Not many 800’ bare granite monoliths out there (sort of like Enchanted Rock, but much bigger)

That sure sounds like fun. I'd love to see Liverpool play. Enjoy!

If you carry a pocket knife, leave it in the car. They may wand you and if they find it, you will lose it.

Thanks. I lost a little Swiss Army knife at an air show checkpoint because I didn’t want to hike back to the car. I often wonder if the security guys go through the stuff and take what they want before they pitch it.

Thanks! My oldest son is a huge BVB fan. We watched their game last night v Man City and it was a real snooze. I hope tomorrow’s game is better.

I've been to a 49ers game at Candlestick. But that was before digital cameras were consumer level devices.

Basically what Ash78 said. The Epicenter is pretty cool, as it most of Uptown. If you want to congregate among the Modern Youth, Plaza Midwood is a good place to go. It’s pretty much impossible to find bad food in Charlotte unless if you’re really trying.
If you’re trying to do car stuff, the GoPro Motorplex track is about half an hour out of town and is honestly one of the best go-kart tracks in the country. Also, Foreign Cars Charlotte and Metrolina Auto are some pretty good exotic car dealerships.

They do. My wife works for an event venue and they have baskets of pocket knives that anyone can take.
Top tip, if someone came by the next day and asked for their knife back, they would probably get it (as long as it wasn’t taken away for mischievous reasons). They get so many knives, they would probably be glad to be rid of one. Unless you're new, no one really wants another knife.

For such situations I usually take a camera like this which has like 90% of the capability of my DSLR in something small and relatively innocuous. Better than P&S, smalle than the DSLR.
